My journey into artistic practice started in the streets of NYC with a roll of film, a developing tank, and the camera I inherited from my father. After moving to Germany, losing the sharp edges and hard shadows of NYC, and becoming busy with family life, my artistic practice took a pause but fully exploded again once I discovered the world of textiles.
Embracing the title of textile artist empowers both me and the unheralded woman who came before me- who used their hands to create useful, beautiful, comforting objects for the people they loved. As in photography, my focus is on the analog process- making things by hand, slowly, with thoughtfulness and deliberateness. A sense of story is inherent in my work.
Mindful of the fragility of the world we live in and determined not to contribute to the overabundance of textiles, my work also has a conscious focus on sustainable, repurposed materials.
